The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has recently made the final touches on the logo of the First International Conference of Urban Heritage in Islamic Countries (UHIC). The basic idea of the logo was derived from “The Arch,” which is one of the most important architectural features of the Islamic Renaissance.
Mr. Hussam Al Mojeli, the head of SCTA’s Design Unit explained that: “The idea behind any logo is not born at the spur of the moment, but it is the product of a comprehensive study and research. The idea of a logo design is based on its marketability, and the concept must relate to the event’s motto.” He said that the final logo represents a total integration of expertise between SCTA and the private sector represented by the Developmental Center of Advertising.
UHIC’s logo contains many important dimensions that refer to the diversity of Islamic heritage in its beauty throughout the Muslim world in various continents. Islamic heritage features in the logo symbolize a set of colored arches pointing to the Islamic world in unity and solidarity. The number 1 symbolizes the first Islamic conference, while the character (أ) is pointing to the first letter of the Arabic alphabet and the letter A refers to the use of the Latin alphabet by some Islamic countries.
The UHIC will be held from April 18-23, 2010 under the patronage of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdulla bin Abdul Aziz, and will take place in the King Faisal Hall at the Intercontinental Hotel in Riyadh, with a vision highlight the importance of cultural, economic, social, and tourism factors of urban and architectural heritage as a key sector of development in Islamic countries and to generate a mutually agreed upon policy, implementation mechanisms, and designation of joint projects between cooperating countries in the areas of urban heritage in the Islamic world.
