Edward L. Beauchamp, Founder of the World Tourism Foundation, a board member of the Region Initiative in Pakistan, and the International Institute for Peace (IIPT) through tourism died at age of 62 on April 24 at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.
CJ, Ed’s wife and partner in the WTF said: in an email: “My heart is broken.”
Louis D’Amore, president and founder of the IIPT states: “Ed Beauchamp had a great vision for tourism and the world – a vision which found expression through the World Tourism Foundation to which he devoted the last one third of his life. The greatest tribute that can be made to Ed by those who knew him and believed in his vision, is to continue supporting CJ – his wife and partner in WTF, in realizing Ed’s dream for the World Tourism Foundation.”
eTN Publisher and ICTP chairman Juergen Thomas Steinmetz said: “Ed inspired many with his passion for tourism. He was a loyal eTN reader for more than 10 years. I was pleased to serve on his board as a founding trustee and Ed’s support and guidance will be missed.”
The World Tourism foundation summarizes Ed’s vision in stating:
The World Tourism Foundation and the for-profit World Tourism Network are being created BY the industry FOR the industry to dramatically reduce travel supplier distribution costs.
They were created under the assumptions that the first consumer travel decision is Where, and that the world’s largest industry revolves around the smallest destination.
The Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) of the world will be placed in the “center of the universe” in the eyes of visitors, as well as in the eyes of their suppliers, politicians, the media, and residents.
Tourism provides the only remaining realistic path to peace.
