ATHENS, Greece (eTN) – The Ministry of Tourism of Greece and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) has announced that more information has surfaced regarding the earthquake that struck the south-western part of the country yesterday.

ATHENS, Greece (eTN) – The Ministry of Tourism of Greece and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) has announced that more information has surfaced regarding the earthquake that struck the south-western part of the country yesterday.

According to the reports by local GNTO authorities from the heavily hit areas of Ilia and Achaia, no tourists were hurt, and that there has been no damage to hotel buildings in the areas mentioned.

Two local residents, however, were killed and more than 85 people were injured and have been transferred to hospitals.

The earthquake caused some houses to collapse and has affected transportation infrastructure. Earlier, the movement of cars was disrupted on the national road of Tripolis -Ancient Olympia and in Diakofto due to landslides. As of press time, however, the roads have
Been re-opened.

Also, some train routes were suspended temporarily in Kato Achaia due to damages on the railway.

According to the Athens Observatory, the quake measured 6.5 on the Richter scale with a depth of only 10 kilometers below ground surface at 15:25 (local time of Greece).
